Objective: To review the literature on the history of surgical techniques for harvesting corneal stem cells. Methods: Medline review of corneal stem cell surgery for ocular surface disease. Results: A wide variety of techniques have been recorded for this procedure from relatively low-technology manual techniques to femtosecond laser dissection of the limbal tissue. Conclusions: Newer stem cell harvesting techniques using fibrin glue fixation of the graft will facilitate the surgical management of severe corneal stem cell deficiency. |
